Note to self

Dear Self,

I am learning to let go of things I cannot change.

I am letting go of past memories, hurt and regret. 

Scars never disappear, they might heal and we might forget them, but they are permanent. Whether they be mental scars or physical scars, they tell a story and I am not ashamed. They are a marked reminder of the battle with my mind and my body. 

I will let go…

The past does not define me and I am not the definition of  broken, damaged or void. I will not be pitied. I am not a victim. I will not be defeated and I will not surrender. I have withstood the storm.

I am my own self. I will no longer seek validation from others, neither will I succumb to the morals of society. I will not be overshadowed by adversity. “I am a free human being with an independent will.”

I endeavour to discover my soul, in the pursuit of finding my fire.

Learned experience has taught me that;

Not everyone will like you.

Not everyone will get you. 

Not everyone will understand your journey.

Not everyone will appreciate your hardships.

Not everyone will value you and all you have to offer. 

And that’s ok, because remember;

There will be people who love and accept you, your scars, your body and your soul. 

These people will appreciate and treasure you for who you are. 

For kindness and compassion is engaging and harmonious.

Be the reason someone smiles. Be the reason someone feels loved and believes in the goodness of people.

We may be similar, two peas in a pod. Or our kindred spirits may be just as undeniable as our differences.
